You will find Tony van Hasselt to be an ideal workshop mentor for painting in Oaxaca. He brings to this workshop proven skills based on over 30 years experience as a successful painter and teacher.   

Tony is a master watercolor painter, teacher and author  who loves to share his joy  of the outdoors through his teaching workshops, art instruction books and videos.  He paints  with clear, expert strokes in an impressionistic style. He has the ability to graphically explain problems and solutions as they arise during a demonstration.  Combined with his energetic and enthusiastic teaching style, he is a highly admired  instructor, appreciated for his concern with artists  struggles. Artists at all  levels will benefit from a more intimate understanding of design, color and its possibilities in the exciting world of landscape painting.

Tony has been featured in magazines such  as Watercolor Magic, The Artist’s Magazine, Southwest Art, American Artist and Australian Artists, and  the Dutch art magazine Palet en Tekenstift  as  well as the following books: “The Artist’s Sketchbook”  by  Rex  Brandt; “Watercolor: Let the Medium Do It” by Valfred Thelin; “Watercolor, My Second Career”  by Bill Condit; “Splash 2" and “Basic People Painting Techniques”  by  Rachel Wolf;  “Learn Watercolor the Edgar  Whitney  Way” and “Watercolor Impressionists”  by Ron Ranson.

He has authored two instruction books,  "A Studio Visit"and “Outdoor Watercolor Workshop” (Watson-Guptill Publications). With Judy Wagner, he has  co-written “Painting with the White of  Your Paper” and “The Watercolor Fix-It Book”, (North Light Books) and several instructional videos.

As owner of Painting Holidays workshops, he worked with a faculty of well-known artists. Tony has painted and conducted artist workshops around the world and is in great demand at home and abroad.

He is a signature member of the prestigious American Watercolor Society. He has won many eminent awards and is in many private collections around the world.  He is represented by the Waterwheel Gallery on Amelia Island in Florida and the Birdsnest  Gallery in  Bar Harbor, Maine.
